As promised, I now present my response to Eve on issues of same-sex marriage, procreation, parenting, cultural support, and more. Just a quick reminder of the background. Eve wrote a column for the National Catholic Register on the Goodridgedecision. I responded specifically to her points about procreation. Eve replied in a series of four posts starting here.
I will now present my response, also in a series of four posts (not counting this introduction). In the first, I will explain how civil marriage is a specific legal kinship relation. In the second, I will explain why couples raising children should usually be married. The third post will explain why I do not think SSM will significantly increase the number of children raised in fatherless families. Finally, I will wrap it up with specific short responses to Eve's specific implicit and explicit questions. In the process I will refer to the first three posts which explain my views in more detail. I thought about apologizing for the length, but I'm not sorry. This is an important topic and I would like to explain my views as best I can. Without further ado, onto the first post.
