I don't have a great track record in supporting the eventual Democratic nominee early. If you throw out '96 when there was an incumbent, I'm a big fat zero for three. As for Kerry, I generally like him but there are some things that bother me. For example when he said, "I have a belief that marriage is for the purpose of procreation," it struck me as pure hypocrisy considering he and his latest wife assuredly married for other purposes. In this interview he seems to have backed off of that statement and he quite clearly said he would oppose any constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Can't say the same about Bush.
In the next week or so I'll have my thoughts on Kerry's choice for running mate. For now, I've got two words: President Shalala. I also thought Gore should have chosen her in '00--and I wonder about my track record.
Shalala is still on my crap list for leading Miami out of the Big East.

Yes, I figure she costs the ticket some votes in RI, CT, NY, NJ, etc. where they can afford to lose votes, but she helps out in FL. She also has ties to WI and OH some key states.
